In the 1970’s however, the prevalence of pine wilt disease on host trees caused a decline in these cicada populations. Since 2000, various internet resources have been utilized to gather cicada song occurrence data collected by citizen scientists in these localities. These records indicate that population sizes have decreased and are now limited to mountain areas in Osaka Prefecture.
